Hotels in Nürnberg: prices, timing and districts
Nuremberg is a Bavarian city with a preserved medieval old town, the imperial Kaiserburg castle above the roofs and the Gothic St Lawrence church. Stays here cover the full range, from a cheap room by the station to five stars, and most of the sights are within a walk or a short metro ride. Prices depend heavily on the calendar: summer, especially August, is cheaper, while in May during the trade fairs and in December during the famous Christkindlesmarkt they can rise noticeably. This list has 547 properties. Below is what really drives the price of a stay in Nuremberg: the month, the day of the week and the district.
When to book a stay in Nuremberg for less
Nuremberg is cheapest in August, up to half below the dearest months, when the trade-fair traffic eases and the city runs on a holiday rhythm. It gets priciest in May, when big trade fairs and events overlap, and in December, when the Christkindlesmarkt draws crowds from across Europe. The summer weather is good, so August rates are a real bargain. The arrival day matters too: it is usually cheapest at the end of the working week, on Thursday and Friday, and dearest at the start of the week, when business guests arrive. Nuremberg is a trade-fair destination rather than last minute, so for a firm date it is better to book ahead, even around three months.
What a stay costs by property type
Nuremberg has the full price range, from budget hotels and hostels by the station to five stars in the centre. The cheapest option is a budget or two-star place; you pay the most for five stars near the old town. Below are indicative nightly rates.
| Property type | Indicative price per night (from) |
| Budget room or hostel | from approx. EUR 42 |
| Two-star hotel | from approx. EUR 54 |
| Three-star hotel | from approx. EUR 75 |
| Four-star hotel | from approx. EUR 106 |
| Five-star hotel | from approx. EUR 223 |
Indicative rates for a double room, outside the May trade-fair peak and the December market. In a week with big trade fairs the same hotel can cost twice as much, so check the real price for your dates in the search above.
Where a stay is cheaper and where it costs more
The most popular choice is Mitte, the city centre, and at its heart the Altstadt, the medieval old town with the highest location rating, within a walk of the Kaiserburg castle, St Lawrence church and the Schöner Brunnen fountain. This is where you find the most hotels and the easiest access to the sights. It is quieter and often cheaper in the districts further out, such as Nordstadt, Südstadt or Weststadt. Thanks to the metro and the trams, the ride from a cheaper district to the old town takes about a quarter of an hour, so a base further out is still convenient.
Which stay in Nuremberg suits whom
- For couples. Boutique hotels in the Altstadt, close to the castle and the narrow old-town lanes. From here it is the shortest walk up to the Kaiserburg and down to the Pegnitz river in the evening.
- For families. Family rooms and apartments in mid-range hotels in Mitte, close to the main sights. Short distances make sightseeing with children easier.
- First time in Nuremberg. The easiest base is the Altstadt or Mitte, in the heart of the monuments. From here it is a walk to the Kaiserburg castle, St Lawrence church and the main square with its market.
- With breakfast. Many hotels in the centre include breakfast in the rate, which helps you set off early for sightseeing or the trade fairs.
- Near the airport. Nuremberg Airport (NUE) lies north of the centre, and hotels around it suit an early flight or a trade-fair stay, with a quick metro ride into the centre.

You pay the most in May, when big trade fairs and events overlap, and in December, when the Christkindlesmarkt, one of the most famous Christmas markets in Europe, fills the old town. Rates also rise in July around the DTM races at the Norisring and at other big events. Summer, especially August, is the cheapest, and the weather still suits sightseeing.
